My High Street Wedding - Shepton Mallet
The Concept !
My partner of 7 years proposed to me on Valentine's day, as a little girl I didnt have any idea of a perfect wedding - I didnt imagine a perfect dress or flower arrangement. I was a feminist, so obviously I wasn't going to get married! Well I'm still a feminist, but my concept of love and marriage has evolved, I am ready to marry now- but I still want my wedding to be about more than just me and my man. I am so passionate about local and global issues, I have thought of a great way to combine the two. It started this morning when I spied a lush wedding dress in a charity shop on the high street- it was way too small, but the lady in the shop had another in the back, which surprisingly fitted like a dream! It will need taking up and a few more bits putting on ( maybe someone at The Hive would know?) also a dry clean. I'd also seen some lovely flowers in the flower shop, and a nice ring in the jewelers. Cant wait for that new Italian restaurant to open, would be great for a romantic meal ..... It got me thinking, that everything I would need for the wedding, could be bought from the HIgh Street...Shepton High Street ! I could get my hair and nails done here, get my shoes from a charity shop no doubt, Denela's bakery could do the Wedding cake, could have the service at the registry office and reception at The Shrubbery perhaps? Maybe more photos up at the band stand in Collet Park? So am I insane..or would this be a great boost to the High Street, a fab PR opportunity...and maybe even interest the producers of 'Turn back time' or produce a documentary ourselves, any suggestions or ideas? I know its not completely an original idea, and many older couples wouldve done this as a matter of course, but these days my first thought was to order stuff online, or travel to Bristol. This way, we can show that everything we need is right on our doorstep !
